Due to customer interest, Aspire Internships has developed a special hotel training
program in England for people who have low English ability. The internships
programs at Aspire require medium to high English ability (approximately TOIEC
500 for the First Step and above TOEIC 600 for American Professional) and
unfortunately this excludes some energetic and positive-minded people. The
English Brush Up Course is an ideal program for recent University and senmongakko
students and working professionals who are concerned about improving their English ability.
The English Study & Beginning Hotel/Restaurant Training Course is a program of studying 15 to 21 hours per week in an English community college and 10-15 hours per week in a part-time position in a nearby hotel/restuarant in England. For programs that are longer then 6 months, the part-time positions on average pay 4.5 pounds (approx. \900) per hour which can help to cover some of your expenses while in the UK.* Programs that are from 4 weeks to 16 weeks are all non-paid internships. The advantages of studying at a community college environment include interaction with other native English students and high quality of class instruction. *The hourly wage included in the program is intended for the interns to receive a small reward for their efforts and to be treated equally with fellow co-workers at the hotel. The hourly salary should not be considered sufficient to cover all living expenses in the UK. Interns are recommend to take a substantial savings to cover all of the cost of living in the UK for the entire period.
The Hotel Program
As a part-time intern at a local hotel you will receive a chance to get a unique
first time international hotel experience. Varying on the work load at the hotel,
interns work between 10 to 15 hours per week and rotate between housekeeping,
room service, the bell desk and room service and the restaurant. The program will
typically begin in a relatively easy section such as housekeeping until the interns
develop better English ability to move into more challenging sections such as the
restaurant. The host hotel average about 2 to 3 stars and are less then 150 rooms
in size. A smaller hotel can provide more direction and assistance to interns in this program.
Aspire Internships suggests a homestay for interns who have a limited budget
or if it is their first experience abroad. In a homestay arrangement the intern
typically pays between 70 to 90 pounds per week to the host family
(approximately 14,000 to 18,000yen). This fee includes a separate,
private room and breakfast and dinner. A homestay can be a great way to improve
your language ability and understanding of your host country. Often interns feel safest
in their new country by beginning their stay with a homestay. After you familiarize
yourself with your country and area, you will have the option to locate a private apartment.
The new short term programs at Aspire are a great program for people with limited time or for people that are concerned about living overseas for the first time. The short term programs vary from 4 weeks to 16 weeks and include 15 hours of English lessons per week, a part-time internship in a nearby hotel/restaurant for 10 to 15 hours per week, homestay (with breakfast and dinner meals included) and airport pickup.
